3D perception Announces Comprehensive Upgrade Program
Major initiative undertaken to ensure long-term viability of critical simulation systems

Orlando, Florida – December 1, 2009. 3D perception, A.S., today announced the launch of a comprehensive upgrade program for their fielded display systems. The program is focused on ensuring long-term viability and support of critical immersive display systems, worldwide.

3D perception has the largest installed base of simulation display systems in the industry, and will be closely coordinating the program with their short list of 3DP Certified Partners. Direct contact with the customer base via newsletters, emails and other means will begin in earnest in January 2010.

“3D perception and our partners recognize the continued need to provide our customer base the means to maintain their display systems for many years,” explained Mike Raines, Vice President, 3D perception Simulation Business Unit. “While 3DP will continue to repair and support our products, components from other manufacturers, such as legacy projection systems, are often simply not available. The time is right to address the support issue and to discuss display system performance upgrade opportunities with our customer base.

“There are many reasons for considering upgrading a display system other than support: newly available projector technology from a host of our Simulation Certified providers, along with any combination of automatic alignment systems, increased resolution, luminance, centralized control and assistance with tighter integration with the rest of the simulator can be accommodated. Any or all of these benefits can be achieved through our comprehensive upgrade program.

“Our Certified Partners present true value to this process. Not only can they bring to bear the capabilities of 3D perception display system technology and knowledge, they also have expert knowledge of image generation hardware and software systems, database generation or conversion, Instructor Operator Station (IOS) upgrades or replacement, and complex integration with other simulation subsystems. In this age of rapid change, upgrading a simulator using open architecture technology to better ensure long term-support viability as well as to increase training effectiveness at the same time, will be considered a very cost-effective investment in the future.”

One of the company’s recent contracts that serves as an example of a cost-effective technology insertion was the recently-upgraded Flight Training Device display system at Royal Air Moroc. 3D perception was approached for support of very old (over five years) projection systems, and in response, suggested that the system could instead be upgraded, increasing system uptime and better ensuring access to replacement components. The agreement was quickly reached and a 3D perception Technical Services Engineer was dispatched to site. The upgrade required one day of effort and training was resumed the next day.

The company made this announcement and demonstrated their integrated solution for automatically calibrated simulation displays at I/ITSEC 2009, one of the simulation industry’s largest conferences, held yearly in Orlando, Florida.
